March Disney Channel Highlights

February Disney Channel Highlights

This month once again relies heavily on new Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up episodes. There’s also a new Wizards of Waverly Place episode and a couple Fish Hooks and Phineas and Ferb episodes this month. The Suite Life on Deck will also wrap up this month (more on that later). Sonny with a Chance, which apparently has been renamed So Random, should begin airing new episodes later this year.

The Suite Life Movie

The Suite Life Movie

All things must end, and it looks like the Suite Life franchise is finally coming to an end later this month. It’s been quite a ride.

Televisions popular teen twins Zack and Cody, the longest running continuous characters on Disney Channel, are at the center of the comedy and adventure in the third iteration of their powerhouse "Suite Life" franchise, "The Suite Life Movie," premiering FRIDAY, MARCH 25 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) as part of the hugely successful Disney Channel Original Movie franchise. Reprising their series roles are Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse, who also executive-produce the movie, Brenda Song (of the Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated film "The Social Network"), Debby Ryan, Matthew Timmons and Phill Lewis.

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Canada, the comedy adventure movie takes place during spring break as Cody gets an opportunity to participate in a prestigious internship program. However, when twin brother Zack destroys billion-dollar scientific equipment, Cody is kicked out of the program. Soon thereafter, the brothers are approached to join the Gemini Project, a high-tech research center studying the dynamics between twins. Shockingly, they find themselves interconnected in a way theyve never been before: When one twin experiences a sensation, thought or feeling, the other twin feels it too. While this newfound revelation helps the boys see eye to eye for the first time, it puts them in more danger than they could have imagined.

New Pilot: Madison High

New Pilot: Madison High

At Save Disney Shows, we once had a movement to get Disney to produce a High School Musical series for DC. Well, with this announcement that Alyson Reed will reprise her role as Ms. Darbus in the new Pilot Madison High, it looks like Disney is finally doing just that! And it’s also been revealed that G Hannelius has been added to the cast!

A favorite star from "High School Musical" will be joined by six multitalented performers in a new music and dance-driven comedy pilot, "Madison High" (working title). The series pilot introduces a troupe of theater students led by the melodramatic drama teacher Ms. Darbus, a beloved character from the cultural sensation "High School Musical." Bella Thorne Shakes Things Up

Bella Thorne

As Disney’s newest show Shake It Up continues to get more popular, Bella Thorne (CeCe) continues to be just as accessible to fans as ever — a rare treat among celebs usually too busy for their fans. Our own Webmaster Greg retells a recent twitter exchange he had with Bella:

Greg: @bellathorne143 Such a diva. Cant even walk on her own. Poor Sage. LOL (You know Im only kiddin Bella).

Bella: @anitrain actually he picks me up with 1 arm but yeah. he can spoil a girl"

Waking Sleeping Beauty

Waking Sleeping Beauty

You need to see this movie. This film tells the story of the 1984 a stockholders’ revolt that brought in the new management team that included Michael Eisner, Frank Wells, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Roy E. Disney (Walt’s nephew). It chronicles the decade between 1984 and 1994 when the studio created such hits as The Little Mermaid, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. It is a Disney movie, and obviously has some bias in how events are portrayed, but it is still a fascinating look at a piece of contemporary Disney history that most people will not be familiar with. You can find the film on Amazon (only $4 to rent or about $20 to own). It’s also available on Netflix and a variety of other sites.

Save Disney Shows has a New Look!

Save Disney Shows

Save Disney Shows is proud to unveil our brand new and completely redesigned website. Webmaster Greg has built the new site completely from scratch, while still incorporating many of the unique tools and resources we have developed for our various movements over the years.

The new main page provides one click access to our most important sections on it’s standard left sidebar and convently displaysboth the next scheduled event and newest SDS news article on the right.

Save Jake Long

We’ve also redesigned each individual show’s section to mirror the format of the general SDS pages. Each individual show has it’s own unique themeing and also features customized information, news, and contacts most relevant to that particular show. However, many of our show sections like are still using temporary graphics. If you’d like to help us finish the site with your own personal touch, please email or tweet us.

New Movements Founded for JONAS (LA) and Sonny with a Chance

Save JONAS LA

Disney has declined to renew the revamped J.O.N.A.S. / JONAS LA series for a third season citing among other issues, scheduling concerns.

In light of this development, and given the fact that the second season was considerably better than the first season, we have established a “Save JONAS” movement for the fans that have been asking for one. You can learn more here.

Save Sonny with a Chance

It’s no secret that Demi Lovato, Sonny Munroe herself, has fallen on some rather hard times recently. And with all the uncertainty surrounding her future availability, it’s hard to say what will happen to the show. The general consensus seems to indicate that the show will continue for season three, with or without her. Here at SDS, we seek to ensure both that the show continues and that it continues with Demi in her lead role.

As the first filming dates grow closer, we will continue to monitor the situation and possibly begin planning of future events as necessary on our new Save SWAC website.

December Disney Channel Highlights

Disney Channel Logo

The December schedule looks like it will rely fairly heavily on new episodes of Disney’s two new shows, Fish Hooks and Shake it Up.

There are also two new Wizards, a special Hannah, the Good Luck Charlie episode Webmaster Greg went to the filming for, and even a Christmas themed Suite Life: “A London Carol” - Cody and Bailey approach their friends to help out with their charity event, but London refuses. But when her magic mirror takes her to her past, present and future, she learns the importance of giving and being a good friend.

Disney 4th Quarter Profit Sinks 7%

Sad Mickey

Walt Disney Co. profit sank 7 percent during the final three months of its fiscal year, disappointing Wall Street as one-time adjustments dragged down the companys television networks and theme parks and more than offset gains from the blockbuster movie "Toy Story 3."

Disney made $835 million during the quarter, which ended Oct. 2, down from $895 million last year. Revenue dipped 1 percent to $9.7 billion.

Disneys full-year profit leapt 20 percent to just under $4 billion on revenue that was up 5 percent to $38.1 billion, thanks in large part to continuing advertising and affiliate-fee gains at ESPN and a slate of hit films that included "Toy Story 3," "Alice in Wonderland" and Marvel Entertainments "Iron Man 2."

Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger called the year "a good one financially and strategically for our company."

Operating profit at Disneys media networks, which include ESPN, tumbled 18 percent from last year to $1.2 billion during the quarter but climbed 8 percent to $5.1 billion for the year.

Suite Life Movie Announcement

Suite Life on Deck

Well, its official. Disney is making a Suite Life DCOM. There have been rumors of one circulating for a while, but what theyve actually come up for the plot seems rather strange.

As the story goes, teenage twins Cody and Zack Martin receive an opportunity to participate in the prestigious Gemini Project at a high-tech research center that studies the dynamics between twins. Soon they find themselves connected in a way theyve never been before: When one twin experiences a sensation, thought or feeling, the other twin feels it too. While this newfound power helps the boys see eye to eye for the first time, it ultimately puts them in more danger than they could have imagined.

Is this how Disney really intends to end the series?

It’s Halloween Time!

Mickey Halloween Halloween is by far the best recruiting day of the year. All year long we spend a lot of time encouraging everyone to get out there and find more people who don’t yet know about our movement(s). This might be by posting flyers around town, wearing SDS merchandise, and/or by posting about us online.

But on Halloween, kids (and their parents) come right to your door. So put a couple flyers on it. Or pass out handouts with the candy. It’s a great opportunity for near free promotion that should not be wasted. Start printing your flyers and handouts now!

For your convenience, we’ve organized our available flyers and handouts on our Halloween Bash Website. Spread the Word!

Hannah Montana Soundtrack

Hannah Montana Soundtrack

We all know that Hannah Montana season four will be the last for this series. And as a result, the last Hannah Montana soundtrack will be released this month.

The album covers much musical ground, from intimate ballads to straight-up high-voltage pop. "Gonna Get This" is a synth-laden pop duet between Miley and the Caribbean-based singer Iyaz, while the harmony-rich "Need a Little Love" pairs Miley with legendary singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. Miley and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, sing together the ballad "Love That Lets Go," a fitting tribute to their close relationship, both on screen and off. The sentiment continues on "Been Here All Along" and the wistful farewell, "Ill Always Remember You." But the album kicks into high gear with upbeat rockers like "Kiss It Goodbye," "Im Still Good," and the club anthem "Are You Ready." The soulful "Ordinary Girl," "Que Sera" and the explosive pop of "Barefoot Cinderella" round out the albums 11 tracks.

Paul Lee Promoted to President of ABC

ABC Family’s management only gave Ruby 10 episodes and ended 10 Things after only one season. Is this the kind of management Paul Lee will be bringing to the ABC Network?

The 50-year-old, London-born Lee, a former BBC television executive, [and current ABC Family President] will oversee creative and business operations for the broadcast network as well as ABC Studios, the companys in-house TV production unit. Its a massive job for the executive, who has spent the last decade keeping a modest profile at mid-size cable channels.

But Disney executives are confident that Lee is up to the task. They point to Lees variety of skills, which include producing and directing made-for-TV movies. He worked on spicy telenovelas, a staple of Spanish-language television.

Shake It Up Episode Filming

Shake It Up

You heard about it here first! Disney Channel’s next live action series (and the replacement for Hannah Montana) began filming in LA last month, and Webmaster Greg has the inside scoop from the filming of the second episode.

In the pilot we are introduced to best friends CeCe Jones (Bella Thorne) and Rocky Blue (Zendaya Coleman). … At school, we meet Deuce (Adam Irigoyen) … [who] also had an important gift for the girls, a flier with the info to audition for a dance show called "Shake it Up Chicago." Rocky is reluctant, but CeCe insists that they give it a try - it is their dream to be professional dancers after all. … Anyway, CeCe and Rocky audition for the show and through no fault of her own CeCe is eliminated. Rocky makes it, but doesnt want to go without her BFF. CeCe insists that Rocky follow through with her dream and marches her to the studio - with Rocky still in her pajamas. This next segment was very Hannah Montana-esque as CeCe helped Rocky change into her dance clothes during the live show. Fortunately, the host thought more of it than [Greg] did, because instead of firing Rocky, he asked both girls to stay on the show. And that is how these two best friends ended up on TV.

This show plays upon familiar themes and is no way groundbreaking, but it’s a solid effort and is likely to become a a big hit. The star of the show, Bella Thorne, is clearly very talented and as the first of the next generation of DC stars is likely to become the next Miley – and we mean that in a good way!

New Disney Channel Series: Shake It Up!

Disney has ordered "Shake It Up!," a buddy comedy centered around a teen dance show, created by Chris Thompson ("Laverne and Shirley," "Bosom Buddies," "The Truth," "Action") and executive-produced by Thompson and Rob Lotterstein ("The War at Home," "Ellen"). It stars 12-year-old Bella Thorne ("Big Love") and 13-year-old Zendaya. The multi-camera series will begin in Hollywood, California, in July for a scheduled Fall 2010 premiere on Disney Channel. The was made today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Worldwide.

Marsh said, "Newcomers Bella Thorne and Zendaya make for one of the most likable and engaging BFF duos weve ever seen. Sonny with a Chance Filming!

As this newsletter comes to a close, we wanted to apologize for being a few days late. This has been a crazy week for Webmaster greg, which ended with an unbelievable event this past Friday night. Greg attended the filming for one of the last season two episodes of Sonny with a Chance!

My Sonny with a Chance Autographs

This was episode 222 "Sonny with a Choice" directed by Eric Dean Seaton. … dont want to give away much on the plot. This is a episode for the overall season two storyline and it wouldnt be fair to you all to spoil how it ends. In this episode, So Random and MacKenzie Falls are both nominated for the Tween Choice award for best Tween show, which causes some (additional) friction between the two casts. … Needless to say, people where impressed. Ezra took a moment then to mention that I had a fansite to one of the showrunners. I think it was creator Steve Marmel, but Im not sure.

You can read more about the filming at the DC Fans Blog and discuss the show at the SWAC Forum.

Save Wizards of Waverly Place!

It may seem hard to believe, but Disney’s consistently highest rated and Emmy winning program the Wizards of Waverly Place is set to conclude production of it’s third and final season this March! This will bring the show to roughly 75 episodes in total.

The cast was only signed to three seasons, and star Selena Gomez has indicated in several interviews that she wishes to move on. While we certainly respect her desire to explore her options, there is no reason she can’t wait an extra year before enrolling in college or taking certain movie roles. But once Wizards ends, she can’t easily come back, so it’s only logical that the cast make the fourth season now, and then move on to other projects.

At SDS, we believe most fans want to see that fourth season happen. Not only do we love the series, but that fourth season makes the whole series more valuable by extending how long Disney can replay the series, plus it increases Disney’s options for syndication.

Whatever the reason for Disney’s decision not to renew the show, we have a much greater chance of saving the show if we act now, before production ends and the cast and crew begin other projects.

This final season for Hannah Montana will bring the season to a proper end, so unless there is strong objection from the fans, we currently plan on letting it end without objection.

Another Sneak Peak of Good Luck Charlie!

http://dcfans.tv/gallery/glc/caps-promo/thumb/Image29.jpghttp://dcfans.tv/gallery/glc/caps-promo/thumb/Image37.jpg

I hope this isn’t boring everyone, but we’re very excited about Bridgit Mendler’s new series Good Luck Charlie.

The LA Times has just published an in depth review of the series. But the most surprising thing in the article, is this quote from executive Gary Marsh:

"What "Good Luck Charlie represents is an evolutionary step to really put the family into our kid-driven family brand. Do I think this will be a first choice for 35- to 40-year-old moms? Not necessarily… But if we do our jobs properly and we create the authenticity were talking about, it will allow us to tackle stories in a more grounded way that will be more appealing to parents than other shows weve done before."

Someone should tell Gary about all the adults that like Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch, American Dragon, Phil of the Future, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Sonny with a Chance. Still, it’s a good thing that they’ve finally noticed that their shows can and do appeal to families, not just tweens.

Mission Kim Possible to Close?

Recently, MKP group founder Tucsoncoyote posed a question to KP fans: “Has Mission Kim Possible outlived it’s usefulness”? And that “because now so few people care (and the number of posts show it), the usefulness of Mission Kim Possible I feel has come to an End. So in order to get some feedback here, I’m not going to close off this group until January 14th, 2010, the sixth anniversary of the creation of this Yahoo Group.”

At SDS, we’re continuing to fight for KP’s legacy, for better air times and DVD sets, for as long as it takes. and Webmaster Greg feels that it would be a mistake to throw away the history and member list of MKP. But it’s not up to us, it’s up to you, the fans! Visit MKP and let your voice be heard, no matter what side you come down on.

Sneak Peak of Good Luck Charlie!

We always like to close the newsletter with something fun, and this issue is no exception!

On December 4th, Webmaster Greg attended a taping of Disney Channel’s newest original series Good Luck Charlie staring Bridgit Mendler (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Jason Dolley (Cory in the House). The series is currently expected to begin airing in April or May 2010, although no official announcement has been made. In addition to filming four scenes from episode #111 "Kit and Kaboodle" they also showed the audience the first episode of the series – to introduce the characters.

We learn that the mom is a nurse, and its her first day going back to work. Her husband Bob runs an exterminator business (Bobs Bugs be Gone) and assures her that baby Charlie will be fine. Meanwhile, Teddy is trying to kiss "the hottest guy in school" and keeps getting interrupted.

The show is a refreshing change of pace, in that it deals with normal problems with a normal family. At least as normal as any TV family can get – no pop stars, no wizards, no hotels, etc. The only “gimmick” is baby Charlie, which in no way detracts from the charm of the show.

Save Disney Shows Forum

On September 1st, 2006, Disney made a move that would signal the end of the W.I.T.C.H. animated series. On that day they moved all JETIX shows off of ABC Family to be shown exclusively on Toon Disney. This mid-season move left many fans in the dark, as Toon Disney is in half as many households as ABC Family channel. It's true that this series didn't get super ratings on ABC Family, but reducing the amount of people who can watch it is no way to increase viewership! And now, many months after the last season two episodes have aired, there is still no word on a third season. Most networks renew their shows before the previous season ends, and this extended delay shows that Disney doesn't really want to renew the show. Most people will agree that the second season is a significant improvement over the quality of the first season. There is so much potential for a third season that it truly deserves to be continued. There is good news, however. Fans of Kim Possible where able to get that show renewed nine months after it 'ended production forever.' We can do the same for W.I.T.C.H., but only if we can generate the same (or even greater) level of support that KP had. This will be hard, but it is possible! But we need the help of every fan that can possibly help.
